Project |Depth Drive Exhibition

Depth Drive is an installation recalling the affect of a trade-show booth, a kiosk hailing the visitor to connect the consumerist ideology of NASCAR with issues of sustainability.
In August of 2014, I noticed a sawed log had fallen into the Blue Hole at Ichetucknee Springs. While collecting evidence of this event, I encountered a small object at the base of the log; a signifier embedded in the spring, hailing me. It was a Christmas ornament of infamous NASCAR driver, Dale Earnhardt Sr.
This object, a Lacanian ‘objet petit a’ suggested a confluence between NASCAR and the power of the spring, triggering an unconscious depth drive in the direction of desire, through states of increased velocity, of vulcanized rubber and alcohol; of spectatorship.
